Depth Gauge. |
“What a great idea - this will mean we can check reinstatement compliance quickly and easily. I would like all my inspectors in Manchester City Council to carry a depth gauge.”
Veronica Wong, Senior Highways Inspector, Manchester City Council. |

The depth gauge is a simple innovation used to complete quick and easy compliance checks of reinstatement after backfill activities are completed.

The Benefits. |
• Recyclable. Polyethylene plastic can be placed with plastic waste for reclamation. • Reduction in defects. Correct reinstatement depths for footpaths and carriageways. • Durable. Can be used in all weather conditions with no degradation. • Compliant. Meets required standards for SROH. • Reduces waste. Limits the use of excessive materials. • Multi utility use. All utilities involved in reinstatement can use this equipment. |
The Application. |
The depth gauge is a simple and efficient product, manufactured from polyethylene plastic, that has predetermined engraved depths for carriageways and footpaths.
As each classification of carriageway has a predetermined depth of blacktop, the depth gauge incorporates these measurements in a stepped system that allows the operative to measure against backfill to ensure reinstatement is correct.
Operatives can also use the gauge to ensure that street furniture such as road plates and trench covers have been placed correctly over open excavations. This helps to ensure that sites are safe for pedestrian and vehicles.
